You might be surprised to learn 2 points of advice from Warren Buffet

I recently watch a video on YouTube explaining Warren Buffets 10 points of advice to move your business forward. I found it interesting that the advice included continually reading and writing.

Yes, everyone needs to learn to read and write, most of us learn as children, but to continually do this as adults is just as important. My 87-year-old grandfather reads all the time and has read countless books in his 87 years. He writes the month and year he finishes reading each book and how he likes the book. I think this is to help him remember if it is worth reading again. My grandfather never graduated high school and worked as a commercial and house painter his entire life. But he understands the importance of reading. "Reading helps you continually learn." He has repeated this to me many times throughout my life.

In the last 2 years of my life I have come across many adults and school aged children who cannot read. As shocking as it seems, in almost every case these individuals were immigrants to this country, born in circumstance where their parents did not send their children to school, or their parents could not read. Sadly, they are not alone in the US. About 14 percent of adults in the USA cannot read or write according to the US Department of Education and the National Institute of Literacy. It is truly a national crisis that many don't pay attention too.

I was recently told of a story of a women who had to testify in court. The lawyer asked her to spell her name, which is common practice when testifying in a court setting. The woman hesitated, then spelled her first name wrong. Her attorney then asked her to spell her last name. She could not.

Where did us as humankind go wrong when so many cannot read or write. Those 14 percent of people in the US that cannot read or write are missing out on so much in their life. How can they improve upon their life? How can they teach their children to read or help them with homework. They can't.  In the past 10 years, illiteracy rates have not improved in the US. It makes sense to me why it stays the same. If you don't teach the parents, how can they teach their children.

Three interesting points of advice from businessman Warren Buffet

The first time I heard the name Warren Buffet I was 24 and working with a consultant group who worked as consultants for Utah Power. My fellow co-workers were both excited and nervous about this utility take over. They of course didn't want the take over to change their job within utility. Some seemed more scared than others. Curious about this fear, I then researched Warren Buffets and soon learned about this billionaire's life. About what happens when he buys a business. For the most part, they are even more successful.

This man has built countless businesses and so when I hear or see his name, I pay attention. I came across this YouTube video that talks about his 10 points of advice. Three points of advice stuck out to me.

1 - Stay Teachable - Life is a continuing learning process. If you want to learn how to do something, keep an open mind and learn all you can about it.

2- Keep in touch with friends - One of my favorite points is to be a friend and keep in touch with your friends. It is important to build relationships and treat people well. They will in turn be your friends and treat you well.

3 - Choose good friends - Good friends will lift you up not bring you down. Over the years, I have tried to choose good friends that made good choices. I am amazed at how this has helped me be successful in my own life.

8 Things You Can Do at Home to Help Your Dry Skin

This was me last year with super dry skin. I look awful! No Joke! Anytime the seasons change, I get horrible dry skin. I usually get it on my hands that causes me to break out in eczema, but last year my face became so dry it hurt.

Environmental factors such as a change in weather can case dry skin by removing the moisture from your skin. Heat, to many hot showers, dry climates, and harsh soaps can also cause your skin to be dry.

There are many things you can do and use to help your dry skin. Some are super inexpensive things and some dry skin may require a more expensive method. Here are 8 remedies to help your dry skin at home I found on Heathline.com.

1 - Coconut oil contains emollient properties that fills the spaces between your skin cells keeping your skin hydrated. You can use coconut oil daily. Coconut oil is gentle and there is no need to mix it with any other oil or product.

2- Petroleum Jelly (Vaseline) a mineral oil that covers the skins as a protective layer trapping the moisture underneath. This works great for my kids that continually lick their lips and cause the skin under their months to become super dry.

3 - I have been told for years that oatmeal baths can help dry skin. I have never tried this. Seems to strange to be sitting in water with oatmeal, but according to my doctor and grandmother...it works!! Oatmeal has antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties that soothe irritation. Once you have completed your bath be sure to use a moisturizer to keep in the moisture.

4 - Eating food with antioxidants and omega-3s can help your skin have less toxins and less skin cell damage. Some of these foods include blueberries, tomatoes, carrots, beans and peas.

5 - Hands seem to get the most dry. This is because they are in direct contact with environmental factors that cause dry skin such as cleaning products. When you clean where gloves. Gloves lined with cloth works best at protecting your skin.

6 - Stop taking so many hot showers. The hotter the temperature, the more damage to your skin. Some soaps that claim to repair skin can also make skin thinner due to their hash chemicals. Take short showers with warm water and make sure your soap is fragrance-free according to the American Academy of Dermatology.

7 - Using a humidifier constantly running in your home can help as well. While your heater in the colder months is taking the moisture from the air, a humidifier can bring the moisture back in (according to the Harvard Medical School.)

8 - Watch what you are putting on your skin. Wearing wool clothing can irritate your skin. Swimming in chemically treated water can also cause you skin to become dry. After you swim be sure to add that lotion to keep from getting dry.

Your skin is important! It is the first line of defense against disease. When your skin itchy or dry you are more likely to get sick from viruses and bacteria.

Find what skincare routine works for you. Whether it be Vaseline, lotion or my favorite active hydration body lotion, its best to use something to keep you and your skin heathier.

Finding the best skincare routine for your skin will also prevent your skin from getting dry. If home remedies and over the counter products aren't helping, then your dry skin could be an indication of a serious condition. You may need to see a doctor and get a prescription.

Top 4 Skincare Myths

Over the years I have heard many things about how to have great skin and some of them have been true like wear sunscreen and don’t pop your pimples. But there have been some I have questioned over the years. These are addressed in a book I read not long ago “Write Your Skin a Prescription for Change," by Dr. Katie Rodan, M.D. and Dr. Kathy Fields, M.D. The doctors give the top 4 skincare myths they have heard over the years. The first one is my favorite.

Seriously people think drinking 8 glasses of water will fix anything... now the 4 myths...

1 - “I need to drink at least 8 glasses of water 💦 a day for my skin.” No, you don’t. The outside humidity determines how dry your skin will be. You need only 91 ounces of fluid a day and that can come from drink and food. Over Hydration can cause you to flush essential vitamins and electrolytes from your bloodstream.

2 - “90 percent of sun damage is done before I am 18 so it doesn’t matter what I do to my skin as an adult.”  No, sun damage to your skin continues as an adult. While 1 sunburn as a child can double your chance of developing skin cancer as an adult, you always need to protect yourself from UV rays.

3 - “I have oily skin, so I will age well.”  No, many factors play into how your skin ages and skin type doesn’t really make much of a difference.

4 - “Facial exercises will lift my skin.” No, sorry you can’t fight gravity. Sad news I know. I wish we could. The more you move your face, the deeper those lines get. Best not to force it with exercise, you are only making yourself look old.

Sunscreen Myths

I love Web MD for medical advice. Maybe I shouldn't read so much into it. The internet is always right after all...(LOL). But I tend to flock to Web MD  to see how really sick I or my children feel.

So when I typed sunscreen myths in google up came my trusty old reliable Web MD.

I thought I would share what I learned about sunscreen myths according to Web MD.

Myth:  "The higher the SPF, the better the protection."

Interesting enough there are 3 kinds of ultraviolet UV rays; UVA, UVC, and UVA. UVA rays are the worst. They "penetrate" your skin and alter your pigmentation making your skin darker (the tan). Now UVB rays causes sunburn! This ray is also bad. It damages your skin's DNA and causes aging, pigment changes and cancerous tumors. UVC rays never make it through the atmosphere so at least we don't have to worry about them.

To protect your skin from these rays, your  sunscreen needs to protect your skin from  both UVA and UVB rays. Broad spectrum means protection against UVA and UVB which is good, but look for an SPF of at least 15 and one of the following ingredients: mexoryl, oxybenzone or avobenzone (Parsol 1789) for UVA protection, or titanium dioxide.
Myth: "You don't need sunscreen on a cloudy day."
You need sunscreen everyday. Even on a cloudy day, UV rays will reach the Earth's surface and cause your skin sun damage. Also, make sure your are using sunscreen in addition to your make up that might have sunscreen in it. You can check your make up see if it protects both UVA and UVB rays.

MLM Shopping, Might as well Join Them

With all the MLM shopping that has been going on Facebook over the last five years, it is just time to join the sellers.

When did Facebook turn into an Avon shopping catalog on steroids? Yes, I am talking about all of those multi-level marketing (MLM) business products your best friends, moms and sisters now sell along with their cousins, their aunts and even their husbands.

There are so many clogging up my feeds that I could not even name them all if I tried.

I started noticing this trend of selling MLM products online about five years ago. I have to say I was intrigued and have watched many of my friends who sell their products succeed. Some have definitely earned professional-sized incomes and given themselves a better way to make money together as a family. Their live videos are a blast to watch and most the time I just watch to laugh with them, but I don’t buy a thing. It has replaced my Netflix movie time.

Others haven’t done so well, and have stop selling products. Nothing is guaranteed in this business.

I have also become a consumer of many of these products, especially the clothing, at my husband’s dismay. In most cases, these items for sale are not cheap and much more than the prices on amazon or your everyday retail store. But people love them and friends are supporting small businesses instead of the big giant corporations.

After years of watching live videos and buying, I decided I might as well get my own piece of the pie and join them. I definitely spend way too much time on social media, so now I spend way too much time on social media while enjoying my piece of the pie. I found a product I like and believe in and this has become my part-time gig.

This month I decided to create my own Facebook page and use attraction marketing to give my business a jump start! In the last 13 days, I have received 90 new leads for new customers and business partners. I feel like I am finally on my way to success!
